La Vernia

A half-hour southeast of San Antonio, the growing village of La Vernia offers a peaceful retreat from the bustle of the metropolis. La Vernia, Wilson County’s most populous city, is also home to some of the region’s finest restaurants, boutiques, and other entertainment options. The city hosts the annual Bluebonnet Fest, which includes a parade, a pageant starring Miss La Vernia, a carnival, and a wide variety of arts and crafts booths, and much more. Popular Wild West Hammerfest Bike Race is held there, too, and features three distance options (including a shorter course for families). Given its proximity to San Antonio, La Vernia serves as a convenient home base for exploring the Alamo City. It will be difficult to choose between the many fantastic BBQ and Tex-Mex restaurants in La Vernia. Then, go on a treasure hunt in the area’s boutiques, flea market, and antique shops.
