Schertz

The first settlers to land in Schertz, Texas was in 1843. They began growing crops of all kinds, from wheat and oats, to corn. A few years later, cotton started to be produced, proving to be a productive cash crop. Today, Schertz is a family and business oriented community. The city was voted as one of the best places to live and is well known for the numerous outdoor activities and convenient shopping. Schertz is home to several festivals and events. The annual Wilenchik Walk for Life is a walking event in March that raises money for San Antonio’s Cancer Therapy and Research Center. The annual Absolutely Jazz is a one day jazz festival. The annual Doggie Dash is held in may by Homes for Pets. Schertz is home to one of the largest parades/festivals in Southern and Central Texas, the Schertz Fourth of July Jubilee. The event is all about honoring the men and women that serve our Country. The annual SchertzFest features a variety of beverages and food, and live performances every September. The community of Schertz is very passionate about parks and recreation. Their public parks feature a Junior Olympic-sized swimming pool, playgrounds, picnic areas, and lighted basketball courts.
